Shih Hsin University
Introduction to Shih Hsin University:
Shih Hsin University was founded in 1956 by the late, famous journalist and publisher, Mr. She-Wo Cheng. Originally an institution devoting itself to training professional journalists, Shih Hsin University developed into a full-fledged university in August 1997. The university has four colleges, including the College of Journalism and Communications, the College of Management, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the School of Law. To meet the needs of people who are already working, but wish to continue their education, the university offers continuing education programs ultimately leading towards bachelor’s, masters and doctoral degrees. Shih Hsin University has also been assessed as an “Excellence in Teaching University” by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education since 2005.

Professional Language Teaching:
- We strive for, first of all, accurate pronunciation. We require our teachers to speak standard mandarin (putonghua, or guoyu).
- We require our teachers to correct our students’ pronunciations at all times.
- We do our best to take care of each and every single one student so that no one feels left alone.
- We require Teaching Assistants to attend classes, helping teachers and observing students’ learning conditions.
- We do “collective preparation of class” for our teachers in order to benefit all students. Each level of teachers is led by a senior teacher in the group.
-
Happy Learning:
- We recommend our teachers to be pleasant, and to speak loud and clear. We also recommend them not to be too strict, rather, teach with a relaxed manner.
- We strive to keep our teaching team young and lively.
- We encourage the appropriate usage of “game” in the classroom in order to create a fun learning environment for our students.
-
Cultural Input and Travel:
- We organize culture classes such as viewing traditional performing arts, practicing calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, and martial arts, etc.
- We invite scholars to lecture on History of Taiwan, Military Dependents’ Villages Culture, Multicultural of Taiwan, etc.
- Travel and Foods: Other than sampling various foods of the famous Taiwan Night Markets, we take students to beautiful scenery spots on both western and eastern Taiwan.
